More than ten years ago, I realized that all I could paint was blue roses. This was when I was taking care of my aging mother whose brain was dying gradually due to an illness while her body remained healthy. This experience taught me that life and death are not distant on both extremes but rather are precariously intertwined.
Fast-forward to today, as we become increasingly plagued by the pandemic, war, and natural disasters in this era of uncertainty, end of life seems to be more imminent than ever to most of us.
It is true that all things in life are destined to lose their shapes. This is why I decided to crystallize the memories and thoughts that were accumulated in my inner heart to keep them intact.
This is the first time I painted glass and silk and made small objects out of brass and wood.
This is only the beginning of my efforts to confine fragile crystals in my artwork.
